RHOA Episode 9 Recap: Kandi Burruss Throws Another Disastrous Dinner

Well, that was fast. Even though NeNe Leakes cleared the air with Cynthia Bailey and Kenya Moore in last week’s episode, she still holds major grudges (and throws her signature shade) towards the girls at Kandi Burruss’ party. Yikes…there’s never a dull moment.

1) Back to Business!

Real Housewives of Atlanta stars Cynthia Bailey and Peter Thomas

They’ve made amends, now they’re making money! Cynthia and husband Peter Thomas are searching for a new space since they have to sell their foreclosed BarOne lounge. They find a home for their business in a very historical neighborhood — the new building is right next to an old funeral home where Martin Luther King Jr.’s body rested before he was buried.

“He had a dream. We got dreams,” Cynthia says. “This is where we’re trying to be in every way.”

On the other side of town, NeNe fields three big offers from Broadway: Chicago, Rock of Ages, and Cinderella all want a piece of NeNe. Surprisingly, she’s not too crazy about the role that she ultimately takes — Cinderella’s Wicked Stepmother.

“This is going to be a real stretch for me. I’m not mean!” NeNe insists in her confessional. Is she sure about that?

2) A New Alliance?

Let’s talk about sex, baby! Newbie Claudia Jordan pops by the Kandi Factory to meet up with Jane-of-all-trades, Kandi. Kandi’s preparing for her first web broadcast of Kandi Koated Nights, the show all about what goes on between the sheets. Claudia, who’s used to baring it all on the airwaves, is eager to be a guest on the show. The two dish about bedroom secrets and their mutual girlfriends. Claudia tells Kandi that she knows Porsha Williams, another fledgling media diva, a lot better than Porsha originally let on.

“We were just hanging out in Miami a couple of months back,” Claudia tells a surprised Kandi.

Inspired by her drama-free meeting with Claudia, Kandi optimistically promises to plan yet another get-together with all of the girls. Claudia agrees to come, as long as Kandi convinces the girls not to hate her because of her ties to Public Enemy Number One, Kenya.

“If there is one thing that they can bond over, it’s sex and relationship talk,” Kandi says in her confessional. Yeah, right.

3) Jesus, Be a Fence

Phaedra Parks prepares for husband Apollo Nida’s “mandatory vacation” — his eight-year prison sentence — by having a team of contractors build a security fence around their home to “keep the kids in and the crazies out.” She’s paranoid about roving paparazzi and lurkers…and possibly Apollo himself, who unexpectedly pulls up as Phaedra and the contractors are chatting.

“They must be cleaning the streets today, since he’s not running them,” Phaedra snipes in her confessional. True to his nature, he makes everything tremendously uncomfortable.

“No one respects me for some reason,” Apollo laments in his confessional. “It’s always been like that in my house.”

Apollo picks a mini fight with Phaedra about the cost of the contracting. But Phaedra, who’s slowly resigning to life as a single mother, gets the final say.

“As of now, the way it seems, I don’t even have a place to stay when I come home,” Apollo reflects. No kidding.

4) A Kandi-Koated Night

Fun, games and sex toys? Kandi finally has the ladies over for that lighthearted night of girl talk…but, surprise, surprise, it ends in turmoil.

NeNe and Kenya just made up last week — or so we thought. Kenya tries to embrace NeNe when she arrives, but NeNe literally gives the cold shoulder and intercepts Kenya’s hug.

“I’m like a one-night stand,” NeNe brags in her confessional. “I bang you — and then if I don’t want to do you no more, I won’t do you. I just want to make it clear: We alright…but I don’t want you out here telling people I’m your friend.”

NeNe also shades Claudia after Porsha tries to introduce the two — “I met Claudia a long time ago,” NeNe says with a dismissive wave of her hand. A visibly-bothered Claudia pulls NeNe to the side to see where the beef stems from.

“You are associated with people I don’t necessarily like,” NeNe tells Claudia.

So much for a warm, down South welcome.

After hor d’oeuvres, Kandi gathers the girls together for a bonding activity. The time comes to pick teams, and guess who doesn’t choose Kenya, Claudia or Cynthia (whom she hugged a few mere moments ago)? Even sweet Kandi, the hostess with the mostess, noticed NeNe’s frosty demeanor  — not that she was keeping anything a secret.

“NeNe is killing our vibe,” Kandi gripes in her confessional.

5) Bad News Bobb

Part of the bonding exercise requires the guests to dish on their relationship statuses and how long they’ve been with their lovers, if applicable. Demetria McKinney is the only Peach to mention her man by name.

“I am and have been — off and on for seven, eight years — dating Roger Bobb,” Demetria tells the girls. “He’s my best friend. The d is exquisite!”

Kandi’s friend Gocha asks Demetria about the on-off nature of their relationship — specifically, if Demetria and Roger were dating two years ago.

“I dated him too,” Gocha reveals. “He told me that you were just his artist.” Demetria leaves the room near tears and Cynthia follows her.

“I’m almost positive [Gocha is] lying,” Demetria insists to Cynthia…especially since she was still with Roger when Gocha claimed to be. What a party pooper!
